An El Dorado murder case may be in change as recent DNA testing has been presented to the court. A brutal attack in the Summer of 1985 which resulted in 54 year old Jane Hylton was found dead inside a friends home after being stabbed nearly 30 times. The case was cold for 14 years then in 2005 Ricky Davis was accused of the murder. Davis was living inside the home where the womanas body was found. Davisas girl friend Connie Dahl served as the prosecutionas star witness claiming she had bitten the victim on the shoulder helping Davis with the murder. Attorney Melissa O’Connell with the Northern California Innocence Project took the case and retesting the nightgown worn by the victim which was so saturated by blood it was unable to determine some of the DNA. Using modern DNA technology, the testing brought results of saliva and proved it was not a match for the girlfriend or Davis and came back as an unknown man. The same DNA test found results from the unknown man under the victimas fingernails. A Superior Court judge has overturned the conviction of Ricky Davis, however the DA has 60 days to review and decide if there will be a new trial. Davis will remain in Jail until the decision is made. Davis has been in jail 14 years, and may be released soon. In the meantime, he still is charged with the murder. Next court appearance is set for May 13th.
