A local group is hoping to raise an estimated 40,000 dollars to commission a bronze sculpture commemorating Admiral Bonnie Potter in Downtown Auburn.
Potter was the first female physician in the Navy Medical Corps to be selected for flag rank as a rear admiral, serving as commanding officer of the National Naval Medical Center, and was eventually appointed fleet surgeon for the U.S. Atlantic Fleet.
According to the Auburn Journal, the sculpture would be displayed at the Armed Forces Pavilion and Community Garden on Lincoln Way in Downtown Auburn. The formative meeting of the Admiral Bonnie Potter Statue Committee is to take place at 6 p.m. today in the Douglas Van Howd Artist Studio, in Auburn.
