Opponents to the recently passed gas tax in California held press conferences in Sacramento yesterday and they are accusing the state of breaking the law by posting signs on highways bragging about spending money fixing roads. A Under California law, state officials cannot spend taxpayer funds to support or oppose the approval or rejection of a ballot measure, or the election or defeat of a candidate, by the voters.a according to California Government Code 54964. Agencies say they are only trying to educate drivers on what the money is being spent on. The gas tax issue has become a major platform position in the run for Governor.
