By Jerry Henry on June 22, 2018.
The City of Roseville has cut two shifts from each of its Fire department rotations as the city wrestles with a budget loss of about 2 million dollars a year. Currently, in the case of a car crash, four firefighters are dispatched. The new system, only three will be dispatched. Officials of the firefighters union stated this would reduce the efficiency of the teams by 50%. By removing the shifts, the city expects to save about 500 thousand dollars. Dom Casey, Interim Roseville City Manager said there will not be any layoffs, and believes there will be no cost to public safety since these changes only effect 911 calls. Several other local cities already have three person trucks.
