A second one day strike by the Sacramento City Teachers Association has been announced for May 22. The union stated Yesterday at a press conference that the first on day strike on April 11 was successful and achieved putting pressure on the Sacramento City Unified School District to finally acknowledge that all matters must be on the table including reducing the salary of the superintendentas and chopping from the top. The district announced yesterday that the one-day strike on April 11th, only about 50% of the students showed up for school.

The May 22nd date has also been selected by the California Teachers Association as a aDay Of Actiona at the Capitol.

The Sacramento City Unified District still is facing a 35 million dollar budget fall that could force a take over by the state government who would then administrate the day to day operations of the district. Separately the district and union are locked in a dispute of terms in the current contract over how to distribute a 3.5% salary adjustment for early and mid term teachers. He matter has been assigned by a Superior Court Judge to an arbitrator and a decision is expected today or tomorrow.
