PG&E announced Wednesday they plan to replace all electric wiring in the City of Paradise underground. They state this is a move that would protect homes in the future from potential wildfire destruction to their homes. 74 miles of natural gas lines also will be replaced under the city streets. The electric lines that will be put underground are not the same overhead high-power lines that are being accused of setting the Butte County fires that destroyed the city of Paradise. These are only local electrical lines that distribute power to local homes in the affected area. In other words, underground construction of electrical services to homes in paradise would have no effect on another potential disaster like the Campfire last year that started with overhead high-tension wire systems that set the surrounding forest vegetation on fire that resulted in 85 lives lost and 1500 or more structures being destroyed by fire.
