The City of Sacramento is hiring a consultant for $150 thousand to look for a new home for the Sacramento Zoo! Three areas are under consideration, The Bing Maloney Golf Course, owned by the city, but the Golf Course would be closed; Sleep Train in Natomas has been mentioned, however the Kings own this land, and no agreement has been made and the Kings announced they plan a business and home development for that area; and the third area is ab empty area of the North Natomas Regional Park which has been discussed as a place for a potential Soccer arena and a youth center. The current zoo was opened in 1927 on 15 acres but sadly lacks adequate parking. Zoo officials say they are concerned they could lose their national accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.A The city also likely will ask the consultant to look at Del Paso Regional Park, Executive Airport (operated by the county, but the land is owned by the city), and undeveloped land north of North Natomas.City officials say past reviews of other sites suggest they are not as likely for a zoo. Those include Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course and Haggin Oaks Golf Course, Cal Expo, Delta Shores Regional Park, Granite Regional Park, the Job Corps site in south Sacramento, and Suttera s Landing Park.
