National Night Out was held across the nation last night. Neighborhood Watch groups organized parties and invited their neighbors to bring in an hors da oeuvre and their drinks and BBQ was part of the social attraction. Each of these parties, attended by about 50 to 75 people had at least one police officer, and others including equipment, to meet and greet. It is a fabulous program and allows taxpayers and service personnel and political leaders in each community to get close and personal. This program started in 1984 and now involves more than 38 million people and 16,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. It is an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities. Loomis, Penryn, Newcastle, Auburn, Colfax, Granite Bay, West Roseville, Lincoln, Tahoe area, and Auburn Regional Park all had active organized parties last night with several thousands of neighbors meeting and greeting our first responders.
