Auburn Police Chief Ryan Kinnan, yesterday, Monday June 15th, created an 11-page memo explaining current department policies and procedures on local police response to use of force by the Auburn Police. The memo states that since the beginning of 2020, Auburn officers have responded to 11,334 calls for service and made 182 arrests (as of June 10). Out of the calls for service, officers were required to use force to make the arrest on four occasions. Statistically this results in the use of force being applied less than one percent (0.035 percent) of the time when responding to calls and 2.2 percent of the time when making an arrest.

This memo was issued to address the state wide, nationwide assault on local police using force when confronted with a hostile confrontation by people that are creating a serious and dangerous life threatening situation to the law enforcement person that is present as the event takes place. It is becoming obvious that there is a national and maybe an international assault on our police agencies, and it appears that the state congressional members are attempting to re-state the local police role in moving forward. Addressing mental health, drug addiction and homelessness which has all been assigned to the local police agencies is being addressed, and state and federal officials need to address these issues and move them from the local police force and into a more professional corps of social engineering, mental experts, and agencies that have been funded and dedicated to this population is finally being examined.
