City of Auburn and the Local Association of Firefighters maybe headed for a legal dispute following an alleged violation by the city of a memorandum of understanding between the city and Local Union 4110. Lawyers for the Union say the city has chosen to release an employee before the end of a one-year probation period and after several month of a grievance filed by the employee which was close to going to mediation.

The California State budget surplus continues to attract associations and advocates that believe they deserve some of the money for their cause or causes. Affordable housing advocates is one that is making their case about how that money should be spent. The Housing Now coalition gathered at the State Capitol steps recently to call for nearly $1 billion for affordable housing and homeowner protections. The group called for four areas of spending: $500 million to prevent displacement, $150 million to protect people from eviction, $200 million for housing assistance for former criminal offenders and $65 million in restitution for people who lost homes as a result of attempted clean energy upgrades. This is one of many actions on how to handle the homeless in Sacramento city and county, and one of many that really want a piece of the surplus cash above the Governora s budget and want to control how spending it.

Another homicide reported in daylight in Sacramento County, yesterday. Around 2 p.m., officers were called to the 2500 block of Cheryl Way for a reported assault, just east of 24th Street and a few blocks south of Meadowview Road, South of Sacramento City Limits. Forensic officers pronounced the woman dead at the scene and investigators are investigating the case and notification to relatives.

YUBANET STORY TODAY: Rough and Ready Fire Protection District is in dire financial straits, according to auditor reports and the District Board. Following several special meetings, a clearer picture is emerging of the financial situation and possible consequences. Also taking shape is a plan to move forward. The districta s budget for July 2021 through June 2022 shows income of $774,270.00 and expenses of $720,076.30. However, this does not account for accrued expenditures and late payments of past-due invoices. The budget income side also anticipates $285,560.00 in strike team payments. This income is not guaranteed as it depends on the occurrence of large fires in California and the availability of staff and apparatus to be assigned to a strike team. Part-time Fire Chief Robb Rothenberger submitted his resignation to the Board of Directors last week, effective May 1st. The news became public during the districta s special meeting last Thursday. The only item on the agenda was a Review and discuss potential Financial Short Falls and Staffing of Station.a No decision was made, except to continue discussing the issues.
