Allstate agency owners from the Sacramento area recently came together to secure an Allstate Foundation Helping HandsA(R) grant for $13,000 to benefit St. Johnas Program for Real Change by volunteering their time during a reverse chef dinner at Saint Johnas Plates CafA(C).

The grant will support the nonprofit organizationas mission to reduce the number of families in the community who are experiencing poverty, homelessness and abuse by improving their social, emotional and physical health while also providing housing, transportation, childcare and employment training. Saint Johnas Program for Real Change is the largest shelter in the Sacramento region and the only one focused exclusively on serving women and children.

Once a month a guest chef from a renowned local restaurant serves a multi-course dinner at Saint Johnas Plates CafA(C) to raise funds for the nonprofit and provide the mothers going through the Saint Johnas program hands-on job training in the hospitality industry. During the reverse chef dinner, Allstate volunteers turned the tables to prepare and serve dinner to the mothers who work at Saint Johnas Plates CafA(C) to honor their progress and achievements. Participating agency owners each earned $1,000 for Saint Johnas Program for Real Change, which the nonprofit will use to further its work in the community.

Saint Johnas Program for Real Change is one of thousands of organizations this year to receive Allstate Foundation Helping Hands grants secured by agency owners and financial specialists on behalf of the nonprofits where they volunteer. The grants support organizations addressing domestic violence, youth empowerment, disaster preparedness, hunger and other causes.
