Placer County Sheriffa s Office is warning residents and visitors of the speed and temperature of the American River being dangerous and could cause loss of life. Because of the record rain and snow from the recent storms, the water is moving at ten times its normal flow and could stay at near freezing temperatures until mid-summer. The us Weather Bureau says that water under 40 degrees can cause hypothermia and unconsciousness in under thirty minutes and could cause death.
