A new program for boaters starts this summer in California. Boaters under the age of 25 years old will be required to have a aState Issued Boaters Carda. Each year, another age group will be brought into the program until 2025 when all ages of boat drivers will require the card. According to the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways, the reason or the new program is all about safety. The boater card is to ensure that those on the water have taken and passed approved boater safety courses. Persons can apply online for the safety courses, then certify they have taken the courses to the Department of Parks and Recreation, pay a $10 fee, and after approval you print a 90 day temporary card, then get a permanent card by US mail.
