CAL FIRE/Placer County fire released today that the Placer County Fire has received a more favorable rating which may have an effect on homeowner insurance premiums. Four years ago, Placer Fire received a 6 rating out of 10-with ten being the worst. Today Placer Fire received a 4 rating and maybe get a 3 within 6 months due to additional improvements. Placer County Fire is the fire department for 475 square miles of unincorporated western Placer County – nearly a third of the county and home to nearly 52,000 residents. Placer County contracts with CAL FIRE to provide fire and emergency services for this area. Fire service elsewhere in Placer County is provided by 17 independent fire districts. The rating process is administered by the non-profit organization of Insurance Service Office who evaluates the fire risk of fire danger in an area and issues the rating each 4 years. Some insurance carriers use this rating service to set local rates, however not all do, and there is no guarantee. Fire officials urge local Placer County area residents to contact their carrier in hopes some reductions can be realized.
