Tuesdayas election is still making news as outstanding and mail in ballots continue to be counted and reported. Measure E-the bond issue to rain funds to repair and update the buildings and equipment at Sierra College required a 55% vote count to pass, and did as polls closed on Tuesday. The measure is still holding at 55% with 30,779 yes and 24, 734 no votes which transposes to 55 YES and 44 NO votes. This is a very close margin and college officials are optimistic that with all precincts reporting in the college influence area in Placer, Sacramento and El Dorado counties. The bond issue is for 350 million dollars and is the first bond issue since 1957 which was the founding bond issue for the college to open in 1961. The college opened with 15 hundred students and today has a role of 20 thousand every semester.
