By Jerry Henry on February 1, 2019.
The Davis Police Department is refusing to release body cam footage of the shooting of officer Natalie Corona who was shot and killed while investigating a three-car accident in down town Davis on January 10th. The Sacramento Bee requested a dash cam and body cam of the incident. Gov. Brown signed assembly Bill 748 last year that requires law enforcement agencies to release footage following a criticala shooting incidents. The law goes into effect July first. Even if the law applied to the request now, Davis police department officials believe they would be on strong legal grounds to refuse, since the incident was not a shooting by a police officer, but an officer being shot. Police agencies also have the leeway to withhold video footage while an investigation is on-going.
