A former Department of Homeland Security in the Obama Administration was found dead of a single gunshot wound near Plymouth in Amador County on Friday. Philip Haney, 66, was a whistle blower who criticized the Obama administrationa s handling of terrorism matters. He was found on the ground near his vehicle with a gun near the body. Amador Sheriffa s office said it appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound however, the sheriff updated late Monday and said this was circulated as misinformation and no official determination of the death had been made by his office.
A full investigation is underway. Haney in May of 2016 released a book titled a See Something, Say Nothing: A Homeland Security Officer Exposes the Governmenta s Submission to Jihad,a which alleged inaction against terrorism on the part of the Obama administration. A DHS officer for 15 years, Haney also spoke during a Senate judiciary subcommittee hearing in June 2016 that centered on the use of the term a radical Islama . Documents, phone records, and a laptop computer was recovered by the sheriffa s investigating the scene which was about 3 miles from his home at a nearby RV Park. Conspiracy theories have sparked nationwide, and at least one US congress member is insisting the death was not suicide. The FBI has been requested to help in the investigation.
