Just a reminder for tomorrowas event that was announced at last weekas Meddlers meeting.

Honoring a leading figure behind the expansion of Bell Road in North Auburn, Placer County has designated the portion of the road between state Route 49 and Interstate 80 as the Harriet White Expressway. Signs noting the designation will be unveiled in a ceremony Dec. 12.

The designation was proposed by the Highway 49 Business Association to recognize Whiteas contribution to the expansion project.

aExpanding Bell Road was badly needed but a tremendously challenging undertaking,a said Placer County District 3 Supervisor Jim Holmes. aHarriet really pushed it through and Iam very pleased that weare able to honor her this way.”

White served as Placeras District 3 supervisor for eight years and was a driving force for securing environmental clearance and funding for the project to expand Bell Road from two lanes to four. The project, completed in 2002, was critical to relieving traffic congestion due to development along the state Route 49 corridor.

aAs President of the Highway 49 Business Association, I was pleased to be able to work with Placer County to bring this forward to honor retired Supervisor Harriet White,a said Don Shields.
One lane of eastbound Bell Road will be closed during the event to ensure the safety of participants. Members of the public and media are invited to attend the ceremony. Parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged.
