The shooting death of two men, believed to be random in Fair Oaks and Citrus heights on Monday night has turned into what is believed to be a related incident involving several people. Authorities said a group of at least 20 men was gathered at Fair Oaks Park Monday evening to play sports when a man with a gun walked up and fired multiple shots, killing one of the men. Authorities said the shooter then ran across the park but was chased by a witness of the initial shooting. The witness caught up to the shooter down the street from the park on Madison Avenue, pulled out a gun, and shot the assailant. Authorities believe the three were familiar with each other. With all the recent shooting deaths in Sacramento County and related other counties, everyone believes there is a gang war going on with rivals seeking and then killing rival gang members in the 5-county area. Since April 3rd, with a gang killing in Sacramento in the downtown club area of K street, there has been several gun shot killings throughout the area, this being the latest. All police agencies are active investigating of these incidents which appear to be increasing by the day.

MEDDLERS yesterday included an update by Auburn Mayor Sandy Amara reporting that the city has started by accepting proposals to expand the Auburn Airport with approval of 5.5 million dollars in investment on the East end of the airport with 6 hangars to be constructed for new tenants to the airport. The current spaces are full and the new income from this expansion will bring the city an additional 52 thousand dollars to the city in rental income. Mayor Amara also updated the changes the city must do to accommodate the weekend personal foot race because Auburn is the center and starting point of the Canyon 100-mile race which is connected with the French western state race, and attracts world runners into Auburn. The mayor also mentioned we are entering into the spring mosquito season and caution is obvious. Placer County Supervisor Cindy Gustafson reported the county is ready to appoint a new member to the county planning commission and she will recommend Bridget Powers as the next commissioner.  She also reported that the county has increased their purchasing of CHP personnel to monitor and hopefully cut speeding on back and country back roads in Placer County. Placer County also renewed a contract with Gathering INN for management of the homeless shelter at Dewitt Center, for another 5 years.
