State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond announced yesterday that his office has a made arrangements with the Microsoft Corporation to pay $973,868 to the Paradise Unified School District for rebuilding efforts following Californiaa s most destructive and deadly wildfire. 14 schools were either damaged or destroyed by the fire. The fire also temporarily forced the closure of 99 schools and displaced nearly 32,000 students. This is money left over from a voucher program created as the result of a $1.1 billion settlement in 2003 which required Microsoft to reimbursed California consumers for antitrust violations.
