Auburn Mayor Bill Kirby put forward a motion at last nighta s City Council meeting to increase sales tax in the city by 1 cent. Kirby speaking at the Meddlers this morning said that with the additional police and firemen added this year, the city which is in excellent fiscal health will not be able to sustain the increases in services and handle increases in other costs coming in the near and longer time. Kirby said that he believes the debate must get started and be discussed by all concerned so a workable plan can created.
