Mayor Berlant spoke at Meddlers this morning, the weekly briefing delivered by the Mayor and Supervisor Gustafson representing Placer County. Meddlers is sponsored and produced by the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, and typically has 20 to thirty participants. The meetings have been broadcast on Zoom and anyone can attend by going to the chamber WEB site. Berlant, also reported that 4.5 acres of land near the new cemetery has been annexed to the County to accommodate a housing project that is planned on the surrounding land. Also next week, the council will discuss trash collection procedures with Recology, the company that provides the service to the city to examine state laws that will become affective soon, and also increasing more recycle trash in the city.
Supervisor Cindy Gustafson updated the group that the county has received the last payment from the state for grants to support local business hurt by the Covid-19 virus. The money must be spent by the end of the year. So far, 59 grants are in review, 98 restaurants have received funds so far. Supervisor Cindy also said county officials are staying up to date with the Health Services office and believes the county will stay in the Orange category with the number of new cases reported this past week. The county is also looking into a testing system to search for residents that have survived the virus and created anit-bodies. Residents will be randomly selected and ask to be tested. Supervisors will meet as scheduled next week at North Tahoe offices.
