A body has been located in Auburn’s American River Canyon and is believed to be that of Yin Wong, whose car was located off Covey Road, nearly 50 yards down a pasture, coming to a rest just feet before a canal. Placer County Sheriff’s Office(PCSO) Spokesperson, Dena Erwin, told KAHI news that she is confident that the body found is Ms. Wong’s, although they can’t positively identify the body as Wong until the autopsy reports are completed.
As of Wednesday morning, at least 60 people aided in the search for the 33-year-old mother of three.
The area that Wong’s Toyota Camry was discovered is after Lincoln Way passes the CALSTAR Helicopter on the south side of I-80 and turns into Covey Road.
Early Sunday morning, at approximately 3am, a resident heard noises out in their pasture, but did not report this to authorities until an abandoned car was discovered in the pasture off Covey Road the next morning. The first call was made to Placer County Sheriffa s Office at approximately 11am Sunday.
It has been reported that Wong’s purse and keys were found inside the car and a pair of shoes was found outside the vehicle.
It is reported that Wonga s husband, Santino Zamora, said Wong was watching the kids when he left for work on Saturday night and that the kids said their mother left without saying good-bye or where she was going.
In a Facebook Post, the PCSO thanked everyone who helped in the search and rescue efforts. On Wednesday, Erwin told KAHI News, that teams from 9 different counties from as far away as Monterey, had come to Auburn to aid in the search.
According to Erwin, no foul play is expected and that Wong, “had issues, like a lot of people do.” Wong’s toxicology reports won’t be completed for at least a few weeks so drugs and/or alcohol have not been ruled out as a contributing factor.
