The California State legislature announced today they will not go forward with a proposed fee for California residents that text on their IPhones. This proposal was floated last week by the Public Utilities Commission and reported by the state press as going to happen at a vote in January. A A counter story was carried stating the Federal Communications Commission, the FCC, had issued a ruling on December 12th finding that Text Messaging was an information service, not a telecommunications service, and therefore the State of California has no jurisdiction.A California PUC Commissioner Carla J. Peterman stated this morning that she had withdrawn the action from the Jan 10 commissioners meeting in light of the FCC ruling.
