The East Area/Golden State Killer case was in court yesterday; one year after the cold case became hot again when authorities arrested Joseph DeAngelo and charged him with several cases of rape, burgulary and murder. The case has now been determined to be very costly and the City of and County of Sacramento has decided it will be too expensive for it to bear and is asking the state and counties for 20 million dollars to help. The prosecution is asking for the money to cover witness travel, further investigations and evidence analysis. Case history covers over 40 years of terror by DeAngelo. The assembly bill passed through the first committee unanimously but getting through the appropriations committee maybe more difficult. Some officials believe this trial could equal the national interest almost at high as the O.J. Simpson Trial.
