Sacramento Regional Transit took an historic step backward yesterday by cutting bus and light rail fares in an effort to bring back riders and attract new ones. This is the first time dropping fares in the 50 year history serving Sacramento residents. The agency will drop the base fare from $2.75 per ride to $2.50 and reduce monthly passes from $110 to $100. Senior monthly passes will be reduced as will single ride discount tickets. The new reduced fares will be the same as 2016 which was the year they raised rates. The agency also voted to bring back 25 cent transfer fees. They stopped transfers in 2009.
