Several thousand nurses and other union personnel walked the entrances of three major Sutter hospitals in Sacramento and 13 other Sutter Health Care facilities throughout the state yesterday in a one-day strike aimed at getting senior management at Sutter to include them in planning and executing policy of the Health Care organization during a pandemic. They also want Sutter to hire more help and provide more emergency personal protection equipment and have an ample amount in storage to be prepared for another incident requiring Personal protection. The local Sutter Auburn Faith hospital in North Auburn had union members carrying signs on the sidewalks along highway 49 and waving to motorists through out the day. Senior officials at Sutter Auburn Faith told KAHI they had sufficient staff of contract labor to operate the hospital as normal today and business was nearly normal. Since contract labor is hired at a minimum of a weeka s employment the union strikers will lose the weeks salary they would have received from Sutter Health due to the walkout.
