The El Dorado County Search and Rescue team is releasing more information about a dramatic rescue from a cliff in Mott Canyon last week. Last Thursday, the El Dorado and Douglas County SAR teams responded to a mutual aid call from Douglas County, Nevada, to assist in the rescue of two skiers who had gone out of bounds from Heavenly Ski Resort.
Due to the medical condition of one of the skiers and severe weather conditions that prevented an extraction overnight, Search and Rescue members spent the night in the canyon with the person. The next morning, the rescuers conducted a helicopter hoist.
The Naval Air Station Longhorns Search and Rescue team based in Fallon, Nevada was able to lower a member of their team and hoist the injured skier out of the canyon.
