Officials of the Sky River Casino, the newest casino located in Elk Grove, announced Monday they plan to open ahead of schedule in September. The casino will be located off Highway 99 and will feature 2,000 slot machines, 80 table games, food vendors and other entertainment in the 100,000-square-foot facility. The casino also offers 17 different food and drink options. Tthe city of Elk Grove and The Wilton Rancheria tribe reached an agreement to build the casino 15 miles south of Sacramento in March of 2021. A previous project planned project for the land fell through which caused a new casino deal to come through resulting in the upcoming casino located just off highway 99.


Due to the area Weather Forecast for this week with Temperatures reaching near or over 100 degrees, Sity of Sacramento officials announced they plan to keep open the several cooling centers through Thursday. They plan to open at 8 a.m. and stay open until 4 p.m. Water and snacks wll be provided to users who must wear masks and if thry don’t have a mask, center personnel will provide them. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a lease at all times inside the center. Heat stokes and heat exhaustion conditions are similar and both should be sensed and avoided.


Placer County sheriff’s arrested seven people on July 13th on suspicion of shoplifting at Tahoe Vista Safeway Grocery store. Deputies responded at 10:30 PM to a call-in report that several individuals were loading stolen groceries into two different vehicles. A citizen reported the incident and provided vehicle information that help deputies locate the vehicles nearby deputies recovered the groceries after a search of the two cars. Vehicle surveillance video supported placing a value of $2500 worth of groceries into multiple carts. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that their investigation revealed 6 of the 7 suspects were employees at the top of this Safeway where the groceries were stolen. All seven were charged with felony burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime. All the suspects have since been released from custody.
