Beal Air Force Base in Yuba County was threatened yesterday afternoon by a fast wind driven wild fire that started about 2 p.m. Within an hour the air base started evacuations and ordered all residents to evacuate to the base gym plus some surrounding neighborhoods were also ordered to vacate into Wheatland. Gusty winds and dry fuel fanned the flames as CalFire activated their major fire fighting machine at McClellan Air Base with Air and ground personnel assigned. Cause was not known by later afternoon.
